From the bible we learn that Peter accompanied Christ during the last days of Christ’s ministry on Earth. Peter was told that he would deny knowing Christ three times. “And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, before the cock crow thou shalt deny me thrice. And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.” (Luke 22:60-61) Peter was a pillar to the early church, and needed to have his faith tested so that he could continue in his role after the crucifixion of Christ. This magnificent sculpture is a depiction of the devastating moment for Peter, when he hung his head and wept.
